Latest H&S Stand Down Day

outrigger - single legGuests to the most recent Terrafirma Roadways Stand Down Day were EAE’s Communications Executive for Balfour Beatty, Sophie Webb and Senior Buyer for Balfour Beatty, Mark Ellis.

All members of staff were present to hear directly from a valued customer, just how important H&S and service issues are from their perspective.
The day’s itinerary included team building projects and workshops covering:

  • Folding and unfolding the crane including the height restrictor
  • Single leg use of the outrigger on Dura-Base mats
  • Trailer hitching
  • How to manage changes in direction with Dura-Base mats over contoured ground

“The day was the latest in a series of Stand Down Days and was a huge success.  It confirmed our commitment as a company to health and safety issues at all levels and at all times”, said Hugh Robertson, MD.

After lunch, Terrafirma’s Operations Director, Allen Jolley talked extensively about reducing risk potential and near misses through total awareness at all times of the individual and their surroundings.

“We were very pleased to be able to attend the day and both found it interesting and informative.  It was good to see the degree of openness in the room and the willingness amongst the workforce to raise and discuss safety matters”, commented Sophie at the end of the day.
